The new Miley Cyrus is experiencing the same success as the old model, as the singer’s “Bangerz” took the top slot on the U.S. album chart last week.
Cyrus’ RCA release – her first album issued outside the Disney label group – became her sixth No. 1 set with first-week sales of 270,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ended Oct. 13. She previously claimed the pinnacle with “Meet Miley Cyrus” (2007) and “Breakout” (2008), while albums credited to her TV and film character Hannah Montana topped the chart in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Since exiting the Hollywood Records family, Cyrus has eschewed her squeaky-clean image in favor of adult-oriented provocation in scantily clad (or unclad) videos and tongue-waggling, twerking appearances on the MTV Awards and “Saturday Night Live.”
